RURAL COUNTRY Norway
CHARACTERISTICS
The municipality Finnøy and the Couny of Rogaland has both been the norwegian partners in the vital rural area-project.
Finnøy is one of the norwegian partner in the Vital Rural Area project. North of Stavanger, in the south/west part of Norway, you'll find the municipality Finnøy. Here lives around 3050 inhabitants on 16 islands. The municipality centre is Judaberg. Finnøy is known in Norway for producing around 30 prosent of the norwegian tomatoes. Because we have a mild clima and a lot of light, the tomatoes grows fast from february to oktober every year in upwarmed green houses. Every august we arrange a tomatoe-festival for profiling the municipality. The agri-cultur is big, also salomon farming. Around on the islands you can visit small villages, beautiful nature and meet nice people. You have to take a ferry or a fast boat. Its only two of 16 islands who has a tunnel to the fastland.
Finnøy was invited into the Vital Rural Area project by the County Council of Rogaland in 2009. We have been a small partner together with the County of Rogaland.
We are "building up" a park for local food. In the park local producers can rent a locality for testing out their products and get help for developing their products. In the park we also have a aqkvapark for producing and testing new products from sea, sea urchin and others "blue" arts.
The County Council of Rogaland is the second partner from Norway. Rogaland has 28 municipalities and the largest is Stavanger with around 150 000 inhabitans. Here you find the administration center for the County of Rogaland.
Rogaland has a lot of oil and food-industry. For both industry, Stavanger is the capital in Norway. Specially because the oil-industry, Stavanger is an international city with many nationalities.
